Doc Chad archivists will know Burton as the underground radio and other subversion colleague from back in the good ol' draft dodging days. Lately Dennis has been working on a series of archive tapes basically abandoned by Randy Hutton when he went to NYC in the '80s. This stuff includes lots of jamming with the Doc stretching way back. For instance this latest acoustic guitar duet represents the earliest Chadbourne now available, recorded nearly two years before "Volume One: Solo Acoustic Guitar." Three long improvised pieces show heavy influence of John Coltrane, Ornette Coleman, Captain Beefheart and others. The sound is quite vivid. More of this type of material coming!
